Key Differences Between Reactive Medicine and Preventive Medicine

  • 2 min read

Reactive medicine is medicine that waits for a symptom to appear before seeking medical treatment; it involves reacting to illness, pain, or discomfort only after the symptom has already manifested. In contrast, preventive medicine focuses on monitoring health through regular checkups, allowing for the development of personalized strategies based on each individual's health and daily habits.

Preventive medicine does not wait for a symptom to appear, but works from the root on those areas of health that may be showing signs that something is not working 100%.

We are currently experiencing a paradigm shift in how we understand and manage our health. We are moving away from what is known as Medicine 2.0 , which focuses on intervention only after disease has already developed, with limited personalization and little preventative attention to potential chronic conditions, and towards Medicine 3.0 , a model focused on prevention, personalization, and long-term health optimization.

The idea is to dampen, reduce and postpone the need to resort to Medicine 2.0 so frequently, allowing people to maintain better health for longer.

Prevent rather than treat. Act early rather than react late. Personalize interventions using the best available scientific evidence, data intelligence, genomics, wearables, and regenerative medicine.

Lifespan and healthspan are given equal weight. Lifespan refers to the total number of years a person lives, while healthspan refers to the years they live in good health, free from chronic diseases or disabilities that affect their quality of life. The goal of Medicine 3.0 is not only to extend life, but to increase the number of years people can enjoy with energy, functionality, and well-being.¹ ²

Reactive medicine vs. preventive medicine: a paradigm shift

It's not just about living longer, but about living better, with purpose and without limits.

At Lonvida we practice Medicine 3.0, combining artificial intelligence, genomics and regenerative medicine to offer personalized wellness and longevity plans that improve health in the short, medium and long term.

We integrated Salud.ia, a pioneering platform in Latin America that combines artificial intelligence, genetics, biomarkers and lifestyle to offer accurate diagnoses and personalized health and longevity plans.

Because we believe that prevention gives people back control of their health and helps them make better decisions, investing in interventions that can have the greatest impact on their well-being and quality of life.
